The commitment of equine sport…
Horse showing is a highly rewarding and highly involved sport that requires a great amount of dedication. Your commitment is first and foremost to the care of your horse and the partnership you build together. Representation of the values upheld by Mustang Spirit Horsemanship must be demonstrated prior to joining the team. Costs include owning or leasing a horse, keeping the horse healthy and sound through appropriate vet, farrier, bodywork and nutrition care, continuing your education through lessons and show coaching, well-fitting tack and other training equipment, travel and trailering to and from shows, stabling and care for the horse on the show grounds, lodging if traveling to a show further from home, food and self-care items for the duration of the shows, show organization and/or club membership fees, office and entry fees for show class participation, photographer and videographer fees, show groom and braider fees, show attire, show tack and grooming supplies, as well as any optional additions and, of course, any unplanned expenses. Aside from the financial costs, your commitment is also in the amount of time you will spend both preparing for and participating at shows. Owning or leasing a horse alone takes up a large portion of time, and keeping a horse show-ready increases that time commitment. Show team participation requires private lessons, show-team group lessons, team meeting attendance, and show attendance as a volunteer or competitor, which also add to the amount of time allotted to the sport.
